My Favorite Authentic Mexican Gum
I have a new favorite gum. Its Wrigley’s Orbit Mint Mojito Gum. It kicks Chiclet’s ass any day, you name the place.

No, seriously… Watch some ground beef thaw. Kathy Maister of StartCooking.com, a how-to cooking site, takes you through properly thawing your frozen beef.
And no, you don’t just leave it out on the counter in the morning, go to work, hit the gym then come home to watch The Office before cooking it for dinner.
Kathy lets you know that there is a little more to it than that.
The Mexican Government is pooling its resources and working with the U.S. and Canadian restaurateurs to help promote real Mexican food.
When the fast-food chain tried to establish a presence in Mexico City in the 1990s, consumers were so perplexed by the “burritos” that a leading newspaper helpfully included a definition.
Mexican cuisine probably is one of the most misunderstood cuisines.

Foods that look like other foods
Would you go through a sensory dissonance if you ate a crab cake fashioned to look like waffles… Uh! Probably not, but it would be funny to trick people with this stuff none the less.

Mmm! Crabcake Waffles! |
Is it meatloaf? Or a fantastically delicious chocolate cupcake raspberry dessert? |
Oh! And here is a picture of a Snake killing a kangaroo. Sure… Why not?

Help! My Breakfast is Eyeballing me!

I hate egg yolks so when I discarded them next to my English muffin I got this strange feeling like I was being watched…
(more…)
Most any city I travel to I always make sure to find the locals favorite sushi bar. I just love sushi. But I have to say, of all the places I have eaten spicy tuna, my favorite, by far is right here in the Chicagoland area… Sushi Kushi Toyo.
They serve it two ways. 1. The usual spicy tuna inside-out roll or 2. A dish they call Brittle Tuna Sashimi.
I always, always get the brittle tuna (pictured below) which is a lump of spicy tuna atop a bed of tempura crumbs and 1 half of avocado slices! It is amazing! It is not always on the menu, but if you ask for it they will easily make it for you.

I used to despise breakfast foods. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles and especially sausage. The smell was vomit inducing to me. When I was a kid my dad would take us to Denny’s or some other greasy spoon and I would be the only who would order from the lunch menu… salads, hamburgers, hot dogs, anything that was not associated with breakfast foods. But I’ve started to come around.
It was in High School when I really became interested in health and exercise, lifting weights, that I began to eat egg whites. They disgusted me, but I was determined to scarf down as many grams of protein I could and eggs were a really easy way to do this. Egg whites were really the only thing I could eat because of the low levels of flavor and smell.
Jump forward a few years to the year 2000, my first omelet. It was in Gallup, New Mexico at a little dinner. I was 22 and decided that I would have another go, I ordered a Denver omelet. The waitress look and me baffled, then cocked eyed when I asked her “what’s a Denver Omelet?”. She just honestly laughed as she ran down the list on ingredients. What the hell did I know. But man, I loved it! Sure, I doused it in hot sauce and asked for extra cheese, hoping it would mask the egg yolk flavor.
Let me just get on with it
Not to drag on too much, you get the idea… I slowly began to enjoy breakfast foods and soon found waffles which are one of my favorite treats in the world to eat. And what I really learned in this drawn out affair is that I was really limiting my experiences by completely ignoring something I really new little about. There are so many amazing things that can be made with breakfast foods like Eggs Benedict and beans and toast (ok this one is a bit of a cheat).
I am still slowly introducing other breakfast foods into my diet for the simple reason of seeing what is out there. Up next… Sausage.
